Alliance City Schools will host the 2nd Annual Futures Fest on Thursday, Oct. 24 at Alliance High School. Futures Fest, which began last year, is a career-oriented event meant to engage students in kindergarten through 12th grade in activities and conversations about their future career plans.
With a focus on career preparation, ACS encourages students to learn about careers at the elementary level, explore careers in middle school and focus on career planning while in high school so all Aviators graduate prepared for their future with a solid foundation on how to have a successful and meaningful life.
For years, AHS held a college and career night geared towards high school upperclassmen. While the night was always well attended, it didn’t draw in the younger students and families who would also benefit from the experience. The inaugural Futures Fest last year drew in families with students of all ages and even community members who came in to attend the college and career fair.
“We want to build on the success of last year’s Futures Fest,” said Allison Morrison, school counselor at AHS. “We received such positive feedback from students, parents and even employers from the career fair who said they appreciated the inclusiveness of the event and activities for young students and those preparing to graduate.”
With the District’s renewed focus on career preparation, Futures Fest offers students in kindergarten through high school and their families the opportunity to explore the careers available to them. The college and career fair will still take place featuring approximately 80 vendors, but there will also be fun career-related activities and games for young Aviators to participate in.
Activities include a career fashion show, career face painting, guess the career games, early childhood career booths and more. There will even be food trucks and a bounce house.
“The way we approach careers with this event is unique and engaging for the students,” Morrison said. “Not many other events allow students and families to experience career demos, a career fair and exploration activities meant to help students not only learn about potential careers, but also envision themselves in the jobs they are interested in.”
Futures Fest will take place from 5:30-7:30 pm in various locations at Alliance High School.
