THE BEAUTY + WELLNESS SCHOLARSHIP: This $1,000 scholarship is to support the health of college women. Requirements: Must be a graduating high school senior, current college undergraduate, or current graduate student at a 4-year, 2-year, vocational, or technical school in the United States, must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, and must identify as female. HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIPS: These national and state scholarships are based on students pursuing a bachelor's degree, who have at least a 2.0 GPA and who need financial assistance for college. Click here for link.
CARING.COM SCHOLARSHIP: As the population of older adults continues to grow and life spans lengthen, more and more young people are taking on the role of caregiver for older loved ones. While the exact number of young people taking on this responsibility is not well understood, it’s estimated to be well over 1 million.On top of their demanding caregiving duties, many of these young people are simultaneously pursuing high school, college or graduate-level education. COLLEGE BOARD SCHOLARSHIPS: This program was created to help students earn the chance at a scholarship. The program is currently open to class of 2021 students in the United States, Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories, regardless of citizenship status. U.S. citizens and residents attending Department of Defense Education Activity schools abroad may also participate. At least half of all scholarships are designated for students whose families earn less than $60,000 per year.Click here for the application website.
JACK KENT COOKE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP - The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is looking for applicants for their College Scholarship. Requirements include Exceptional academic ability and achievement: Strong academic record, academic awards and honors, and substantive assessments by educators providing confidential recommendations. WILL DENT MINORITY BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP: The Will Dent Minority Business Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors in Stark County or current college students that are looking to pursue a business major with an accumulative GPA of a 3.0 or higher. THROCKMORTON SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is for students who met these specific requirements: Student must be African American or Native American and must reside within the Northeast Ohio or Western Pennsylvania geographic region, have a copy of birth certificate, attend an educational facility that must be in Northeastern Ohio or Western Pennsylvania, have a copy of current High School/College grades and GPA, have a current financial needs form from the school that documents grants, scholarships and loans being presently received, have a current bill from the school for the next semester/quarter, have a copy of the courses being taken for the next semester/quarter, write a one or more short paragraphs that should state why you should be considered, your future goals, college major/minor, needs, extracurricular activities at school or in the community, and send in final high school transcript (if applying during senior year of high school). VFW’S VOICE OF DEMOCRACY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW’s) premier scholarship program. Each year, nearly 80,000 high school students compete for more than $2 million in scholarships and incentives. Students compete by writing and recording an audio essay on an annual patriotic theme. THE HAGAN SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP: The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship, providing recipients with the opportunity to achieve their goals and graduate college debt-free. Applicants must graduate from a high school located in the United States. Applicant’s Adjusted Gross Household Income reported for 2022 Federal Income Tax Purposes must not have exceeded $100,000. Other requirements include must be a U.S. Citizen or have a Permanent Resident Card (Green Card), must have achieved a 3.50 Cumulative Grade Point Average, must enroll in an eligible four-year not-for-profit College or University the first semester following high school graduation, must maintain a four year or less graduation schedule in college, or complete the equivalent of a four year degree if in a professional program, recipients must work 240 hours from January 1, 2024 until commencement of the 2024 fall semester in college. Work can be performed at recipient discretion. Employment must be regularly scheduled work performed under supervision for compensation. Work can be full-time during the summer and/or part-time work, applicants selected as Finalists must provide a copy of their FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS), must apply for Federal and State grants if eligible, and must not have a felony conviction. DIRK DERRICK CAR & TRUCK ACCIDENT INJURY SCHOLARSHIP: The Dirk Derrick Car & Truck Accident Injury Scholarship is an award for any current or soon-to-be undergrad in the United States who has had his or her life altered due to an injury from a car or truck accident, be it their own injury, that of a loved one, or an influential individual. The Dirk Derrick Scholarship has a brief submission process, and applicants will be judged on their ability to convey the lasting effect an auto accident has had on their life as well as their journey to overcome those challenges. THE JACKIE ROBINSON FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP: The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides a multi-faceted experience designed to not only address the financial needs of students who aspire to attend college but to guide them through the process of higher education. To be eligible for a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship, an applicant must be a graduating, minority high school senior, be a United States citizen, present evidence of financial need, demonstrate a record of academic excellence, demonstrate leadership potential and a dedication to community service, submit an official SAT and/or ACT test exam score from junior or senior year, plan to attend an accredited and approved 4-year college within the United States or affiliated with a United States-based college or university, have not accrued more than 25% of credits needed to graduate from college. ENGINEERS FOUNDATION OF OHIO SCHOLARSHIP: These scholarships are administered by the Engineers Foundation of Ohio (EFO), a non-profit educational foundation dedicated to the advancement of engineering education in cooperation with the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE). HBCU WEEK X LEXISNEXIS® RISK SOLUTIONS GROUP SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is for incoming freshman students attending HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). Applicants must provide most recent, verifiable high school transcript, provide proof of acceptance at an Historically Black College or University (HBCU), be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States, complete or have completed high school with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted) and be entering their freshman year of college, attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) for the entirety of their college education, and demonstrate financial need. AHS FOUNDATION THERESA UTTERBACK FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP: This renewable award is worth $5,000 and is for an Alliance High School senior who demonstrates a clear financial need to assist them with higher education plans, including trade schools. Preference is given to a low income single parent recipient. An applicant from a lower income two parent family who demonstrates need will be given full consideration and should apply. THE CANTELL LODGE #1417 INTERNATIONAL ORATORICAL CONTEST: The I.B.P.O.E.W. Grand Education Department awards $10,000 in scholarship money to the winner of its International Oratorical Contest. THE ART AND DR. GLORIA MALONE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP-The Art & Dr. Gloria Malone Memorial Scholarship is the charitable arm of Cantell Lodge #1417 and Gladys Merrell Temple #1049 in Alliance, Ohio. The Art Malone Memorial Scholarship was established in June 2023. The one-time $1000 scholarship is awarded to a high school graduating senior residing in or graduating from Alliance, Marlington, Sebring, and West Branch School Districts. The applicant must plan to attend an accredited college, university, or training school upon graduation. COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF WESTERN PA AND EASTERN OHIO SCHOLARSHIPS: Whether it’s helping a local high school senior in the memory of a loved one or providing scholarship dollars directly to an alma mater, many donors find great joy in investing in our region’s next generation of leaders by helping to lighten their load with regard to affording a college education. Funds within the Community Foundation of Western PA & Eastern OH currently offer more than 200 scholarships throughout our region. CARNATION CITY PLAYERS EDUCATION AWARD: All communities benefit from having active and thriving arts programs. The Carnation City Players Education Award was created to support the education and participation of young people in theatre. Eligibility include applicants must be high school seniors who have participated in Alliance-area community theatre and/or school theatre, the award is to be used towards post-secondary education expenses, and applicants must express intent to study theatre arts and/or plan future involvement with community theatre. The recipient will be chosen considering several factors including (but not limited to) past theatrical experience, CCP membership (one consideration factor, but not required), academic record, personal achievements, future theatrical goals, and personal recommendations. BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU LIFE LESSONS SCHOLARSHIP: BBB Life Lessons is a theme-based essay contest that challenges students to reflect on living a life of integrity and ethics. The essays are submitted online and reviewed by a panel of judges. The top six essays are then awarded scholarships ranging from $500 -$2,500. This theme-based essay contest challenges students to reflect on living a life of integrity and ethics. We would like to invite high school seniors to participate in the 2025 contest themed The theme for the 2025 essay contest is ''AI's impact on core values". The BBB’s 3 essential core values are ethics, integrity, and trust. Students should describe how artificial intelligence (AI) can impact these core values. What responsibilities do you have as a student related to AI? Students should share a positive or negative personal experience describing when AI has impacted these core values. THE JOSEPH A. AND RHEA M. JEFFRIES SCHOLARSHIP: The Joseph A. & Rhea M. Jeffries Memorial Scholarship is a $750 scholarship that is granted to a Stark County student who has demonstrated academic achievement, character, leadership, and service to school and community. Two scholarships will be awarded for the 2023-2024 academic year. Applicants must meet the following requirements: Be a resident of Stark County and a senior in or a graduate of a Stark County high school, Be accepted or have an application in process by an accredited college or university, have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.6 on a 4.0 scale. CATONNA JONES AND TREMAYNE BANKS BOOK SCHOLARSHIP: The Black Spectrum Collaborative is honored to provide a $600 nonrenewable book scholarship in recognition of past Alliance High School graduates, Catonna Jones (92’) and Tremayne Banks (92’). Both Catonna and Tremayne were outstanding student-athletes. They soared beyond excellence in everything that they took on - within the classroom and in sports. This scholarship will be provided to one female and one male student-athlete. The recipients will exhibit the will to win, lead and persevere, overcoming odds they may have faced in their high school journeys. Applicants must have at least a 2.8 GPA and participated in at least two years of a varsity sport. The following information is needed: high school transcript, three reference letters (two must be from a school administrator, counselor or teacher), a 350 word essay describing their journey through high school and how they overcame obstacles to reach their goals (must be typed and double spaced) Click here for the application. THE NELLIE V. VISI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: The Nellie V. THE HOMETOWN HEROES PROJECT SCHOLARSHIP FUND: The Honoring Hometown Heroes Project established a Hometown Heroes Scholarship Fund in July of 2022. A Hometown Heroes one time $1,000 Scholarship is available to all seniors of a veteran or active duty parent or guardian residing in and graduating from Alliance, Marlington, Sebring, West Branch School Districts. St. Thomas Aquinas seniors may apply if they reside in one of the above four school districts. THE MARY REGULA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: The Mary Regula Memorial Scholarship is offered in honor of the National First Ladies Library & Museum founder, Mary Regula. Essay Contest and Scholarship: This $1,000 scholarship is offered to a Stark County 11th or 12th grade student whose essay best exemplifies the importance of telling history through the eyes of women. History is often recorded from men’s perspectives, especially at the presidential level. Yet it was many of our nation’s First Ladies who were active in diplomacy and acted as confidants, good-will ambassadors, and advocates; they were even present at world-changing events. Students should choose an important event in American history and reframe the event through the eyes of the First Lady of the United States. In at least 500 words, students must answer the following question in an essay format: How would you reframe a significant historical event through the eyes of the First Lady of the United States rather than through the eyes of her husband, the President? Contest Rules: This essay/scholarship contest is open to any Stark County 11th or 12th grade student who plans to attend college in 2024-2025. ITALIAN AMERICAN FESTIVAL FOUNDATION OF STARK COUNTY: A total of $8,000 will be given out to high school seniors and will be judged on a basis of need, scholastic ability, extracurricular involvement, and character. THE MATHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP- The Mather Education Scholarship will award one (1) nonrenewable $500-$1000 scholarship to each of the three schools listed: for the student that meets all the requirements listed below and ranges the highest in the essay portion of the scholarship.. The student will be chosen from eligible applicants from Alliance High School, Marlington High School and West Branch High School. Scholarship money may be applied towards any expenses that the student wishes. All the following criteria must be met for an applicant to be considered for The Mather Education Scholarship: Student must be an active member of a church and provide a letter of recommendation from their church representative, student must attend an accredited college or university within one year of receiving the scholarship or forfeit the scholarship, must have an accumulative 3.2 GPA or higher, must complete a 300 word, typed, double spaced essay contain content of religious affiliation or spirituality. This non-need based scholarship is open to any graduating high school senior who has intentions of attending college in the Fall of 2019. Candidates will be judged on the academic and 500-word essay. OEC TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP: The OEC Technical Scholarship’s purpose is to help cooperative members or children of cooperative members pursue technical training. Applicants will be eligible to win up to a $2,000 scholarship. Applicants must be residential members of an Ohio electric cooperative, or dependent children, or legal wards of permanent residential electric cooperative members receiving electric service at the time of application, applicants may be high school graduates enrolling in a technical program; current technical school enrollees; or students enrolling in a post-undergraduate technical program, applicants must plan to attend or currently attend an accredited technical school program, and applicants must have cumulative grade point averages of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent standing on nontraditional scales. The only attachments permitted are high school transcripts, proof of enrollment*in a program, typed essay responses, and one 500-word letter of recommendation from an instructor. Applicants are also required to complete two brief essays (250-word max each) (A) detailing their educational and career goals; and (B) discussing cooperative knowledge per the online orientation. ALLIANCE AREA DEVELOPMENT CAREER TECH SCHOLARSHIP: The Alliance Area Development is offering a scholarship for Engineering Technologies, Industrial, Advanced Manufacturing and Automotive Technologies for Alliance High and Marlington High School students completing one of the following programs (listed on application) in good standing are eligible for a $1,000 scholarship to a local, accredited college, university, or trade school to be used for programs, books, etc., To be eligible for the program, students will need to meet admission criteria to a local accredited college, university, or trade school and be granted admission, complete and pass one a 2 year Career Tech program at Marlington or Alliance High Schools:Auto Technology, Construction Trades, Engineering, Natural Resources Energy, Welding, or “other”, earn an overall proficient score or higher on required CTE Competency Exams (WebXams) or earn 12 or more points of State Recognized Industry Credentials, be fully enrolled at Alliance or Marlington High Schools during Junior and Senior years, successfully complete all state and school graduation requirements by the Spring Commencement,, enroll as a student at a local accredited college, university, or trade school and be granted admission in the Summer or Fall semester immediately following graduation, and study one of the post-secondary programs listed at the top of this page.
