Exams are coming up soon at Alliance High School. But don’t fret, students! Here are ten tips to help you do the best you possibly can on your first semester exams!

Tip #1: Make a To Do List

When your tasks are organized in an orderly manner, it is easier for you to know what needs to be done. If you have a large project, try breaking it down into smaller tasks helps to make it more manageable. Crossing a task off a to do list is a great feeling and helps to show your progress!

Tip #2: Avoid Using Electronic Devices

Having electronic devices readily available is convenient most of the time; however, not while you are trying to study. If possible, avoid using cell phones, laptops, tablets and all other device that can lead to distractions. Looking up information is great, but it can lead to checking Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, which will take away from your valuable study time!

Tip #3: Make It Fun

Make studying fun by taking notes with different colored pens, using colorful sticky notes and even highlighting the most important information. Reward yourself after you finish a task with a snack or a quick song if that helps you to stay motivated. Find new ways to make studying fun and it won’t be boring!

Tip #4: Make Sure to Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is very important, especially the night before a big test. Try to get the standard eight hours of sleep to ensure you will be wide awake and ready to take on the day! If you need a little extra help waking up in the morning, coffee always helps!

Tip #5: Eat Right

Eating healthy foods is important everyday; however, there are some foods that are beneficial to eat the day of an exam. Try to eat a healthy breakfast consisting of oatmeal, berries and fruits! These will help you to be alert and prepare you for the day ahead. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water, too!

Tip #6: Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute

As tempting as it may be, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! Not only will it decrease your study time, it will also lead to added stress. Manage your time leading up to the exam to ensure you have enough time to study for each class!

Tip #7: Don’t Study for Too Long

Be sure to take breaks while studying. Try studying for 20 minutes then taking a five minute break. Or study for an hour and take a 15 minute break. Taking a little break helps you to remember the material better and allows you to not become overwhelmed. Find what works best for you and keep doing it!

Tip #8: Don’t be Afraid to Ask Questions

You still have plenty of time before the exams to ask your teachers questions. Take advantage of this! Your teachers want you to succeed and will help you as much as they can. They appreciate when students take the time to learn the material and ask questions BEFORE the day of the exam!

Tip #9: Take a Deep Breath

Exams can be frustrating, but taking a moment to calm down is a great way to alleviate some of the stress. Take a deep breath. Count to ten. Then get back to work! Remember the R Factor- E+R=O! You are in control of your response and, therefore, the outcome.

Tip #10: Check HAC

Make sure to check the Home Access Center to see if you are missing any assignments! A few missing assignments could be the difference between an A- and an A!

With these helpful tips, you will surely ace your exams with some hard work and study time!

Good luck, Aviators!
