After reading and comparing different versions of the folktale “Stone Soup,” students in Tracy Bowser’s kindergarten class each brought in a food item to make their own pot of soup, mirroring the story’s themes of community and sharing. 🥣 Emerson even brought in the “magic” stone for their soup! 🪨

The classroom was transformed into a market where students shopped with pennies for an item to add to the pot. 🪙 The class then enjoyed the soup together with bread and butter at a table “set for a king.” 👑 #RepthatA

Reading to young students plays an important role in building early literacy skills, strengthening imagination, and showing children that books matter! Crystal Gibbons’ 1st grade class enjoyed special visits recently from Superintendent Rob Gress and Assistant Superintendent Shawn Jackson, who showed the students just how important and fun shared reading can be. We love seeing our youngest Aviators fall in love with reading! 📚 #RepthatA

Kindergartners spent some time talking about fire safety! Will Kinser from the Alliance City Fire Department came for a visit. He shared the importance of fire safety: never hide, yell so firefighters can find you, check to make sure you have smoke detectors, and have a fire safety plan. Several classes even took a picture with him after his visit. 📸 #RepthatA

Alliance City Schools recently held the 3rd Annual Futures Fest! ✈ The event is an evening full of career exploration that supports the district’s vision of preparing all Aviators for Life, College, and Careers.

The event featured a job fair with more than 70 vendors, including employers, colleges, and branches of the military. Students, families, and community members were able to stop by to talk with vendors and gather information about future careers, schooling, and opportunities. The evening also included a career fashion show featuring middle school students.

Futures Fest offers activities each year for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. This year, elementary students read about possible careers and filled out activity sheets about what they want to be when they grow up. #RepthatA

"I'd have to say Mr. Fails. He taught history. I really didn't like history back then, but he made it fun and interesting!!"

Choosing to work for ACS:
"I was born in Alliance. My family is here and my husband and I raised our children here."

Importance of giving back:
"For me, I saw the need when my children started school. I got involved volunteering in their classrooms and I liked being around the students. I thought I could help make a difference in their school experience, so when the opportunity came I applied for a job as a teachers assistant. I've worked with different age students, but I fell in love with the younger special needs kids. I feel that it is important to give back to the schools and support your community because you should always remember where you came from."

Tracy Bowser's class, along with 12 parent helpers, carved pumpkins in small groups. 🎃 The students also completed a science report about their pumpkins. They drew pictures of a pumpkin and then the finished Jack-o-lantern, described it and made predictions of the circumference of the pumpkin.

They had fun putting their hands inside the pumpkins, taking out the seeds and carving it! 😁 #RepthatA

Kindergarten students in Kristen Hoy's class read the book "Leaf Man" by Lois Ehlert, a book that follows a leaf-shaped character on an imaginative journey through the fall landscape. Inspired by the story, students used real leaves and their creativity to design their very own unique "Leaf Man" creations!

This hands-on activity was not only fun but also educational! It supported fine motor skills, encouraged imaginative thinking, and helped students make connections between literature and the natural world. It also opened up great conversations about the changing seasons, especially fall, as students observed the colors, shapes, and textures of leaves. A perfect blend of literacy, art, and science, this activity brought the magic of autumn into the classroom! 🍁 #RepthatA

Casey Cross' Kindergarten students finished learning about the five senses with a Mystery Taste Test Lab. Students were able to sample vinegar (bitter), lemon juice (sour) and salt water (salty).
