Students and parents filled the gym at Northside Intermediate School with blankets, pillows and popcorn on Friday, Nov. 2 for the school’s very first Family Movie Night.

“We are thankful you are taking time to be with us this evening,” said Stephanie Garren, principal of Northside. “We value our families and want to provide free, safe and positive experiences for everyone.”

The families were encouraged to treat the gym at Northside like a movie theater. They were told to relax and get comfortable, turn off their cell phones and enjoy the movie, “Hotel Transylvania 3,” for the evening.

The movie night was completely free for any Northside family who wished to attend.

“I think this is pretty nice, what they’re doing for the families” said Brittany Bryant. “This gives them the chance to go out to a movie together for free.”

Bryant was there with her friend’s daughter to see “Hotel Transylvania 3.” Even though she hadn’t seen the first two movies, she was looking forward to seeing the third one since she heard it was funny and cute.

The movie wasn’t the only element of the evening for the families to enjoy. Students and their families were treated with food, drinks and popcorn donated by local stores and organizations. The evening would not have been possible without the generosity of the sponsors.

The popcorn and gas card, which was raffled off during the event, was donated by M3 Church. The church even had volunteers in attendance to help throughout the evening.

The McDonald's on East State Street donated juice and cups. Save-A-Lot donated the chips and Walmart donated a gift card to the school which paid for the hot dogs and hot dog buns. The Alliance City School food service donated the trays, napkins and condiments for the food and the district provided Security Resource Officers for the event.

It was a great night enjoyed by all who attended.
