Alliance Early Learning School

\r\n

This week in Rachelle Miller's preschool class, they discussed different ways to stay safe. They talked about when it is appropriate to call 9-1-1. They learned how to avoid dangers such as touching things that are hot or unsafe. They learned that firefighters, police officers, crossing guards and teachers help us stay safe. The class even got a visit from the Alliance Fire Department and enjoyed an interactive demonstration of how they prepare for an emergency and what they look like and sound like in a fire. They practiced safely crossing the street with signals from the crossing guard. They are now better prepared to avoid danger and know what to do in an emergency.

Math Monsters

\r\n

Second graders showed off their math, writing and artistic skills for Halloween. They picked numbers between 100 and 1000 using a number generator. Students then wrote all of the number forms we are studying for that generated their number. The most fun was making the spider and the web.

\r\n

Second grade students have also been busy journaling. They are given a few different prompts about animals, families and friendship. They can choose which prompt they want to write about. A time goal has been discussed and posted before they start writing. Afterwards, they share with a partner and a few students are chosen to share with the class. As a class they set a new goal for their next writing assignment. We are hoping that the love of writing is being created.

\r\n

The students also read the story “Not Norman” in their Wonders Anthology.  After reading the text, the children were asked, "Would they like to have Norman (the goldfish) for a pet."  They used evidence from the text to tell why or why not. They wrote their responses and then shared with the class. A lot of children would love to have a goldfish for a pet.

Alliance Intermediate School

\r\n

The Alliance Intermediate School choir had the opportunity to perform at “Signing the Song” last week. The group sang one song before the performance, took part in the encore performance with featured guest William Martinez, the eighth grade choir and the AHS choirs. Some of the students even had the chance to sing in small groups or solos during the open mic portion of the night. What a wonderful experience it was.

Each homebase will have a BINGO card and will work together. Veteran’s Day

\r\n

The Social Studies Department at Alliance High School has organized a Veteran's Day Assembly to honor those who have served our country. The assembly is open to the public and will take place in the auditorium on Friday, Nov. 8 from 1:45-2:30 p.m. Those wishing to attend should try to arrive by 1:30 p.m.  Reserved seating will be provided for veterans and their guests, by RSVP. To RSVP, please email Joe Beichler at beichlerjo@alliancecityschools.org or call Linda Poole at 330-829-2247 and let him/her know the number in your party. If you are not a veteran or accompanying a veteran, there is no need to RSVP.

\r\n

The opening of the assembly will feature a slideshow of veteran's pictures. If you would like a veteran's picture included, please email the photo (along with the name and rank/branch) to Joe Beichler at beichlerjo@alliancecityschools.org. If you are unable to send an electronic image, you may stop by the AHS main office to have a photo scanned. The image will be scanned by one of the main office secretaries and  returned to you immediately. If you have sent in an image for past years' assemblies, it is already included in the slideshow, and there is no need to resend it. Pictures must be received by Nov. 6 to be included in this year's assembly.
