The Auto Tech class has been busy so far this year. The senior class has prepared the shop for work with inspections of all the equipment and the vehicles we work on. They have also been busy improving their skills with brake service from last year. The junior class has been through their safety course, and basic vehicle information. They are beginning to use basic hand tools, and learn some basic vehicle maintenance service.

Individual home game Reserved tickets ($8) and Student tickets ($4) will be available for pre-sale in the AHS Ticket Office. General Admission tickets ($7) are sold on gameday at the gate only. Student tickets will be available at the gate only for the games at Hubbard (8/24) and home vs. Canfield (8/31).

The Alliance High School Vocal Music Department will present its spring concert and awards presentation on Tuesday, May 15 at 7:00 in the AHS Auditorium, and this year's special guests will be the Northside Intermediate School Choir. Choirs will perform a wide variety of music, and students will be recognized for awards and accomplishments they have had in the area of music throughout the year. The concert is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted. Choirs are under the direction of Carrie Chunat (AHS) and Suzanne Stieglitz (NIS).

The athletic department will be hosting free physicals good for the entire 2018-19 school year on May 10th to any interested current 6th-11th grade student. Beginning Sunday February 11 and continuing until Sunday April 8, the Alliance High School boy’s soccer coaches will be holding an open gym at the Alliance Middle School for any boy currently in grades five through eleven. Fusbal goals have been purchased and small sided games will be played during these sessions. Boys in grades 9-11 will meet from 3:00 until 4:30 PM each Sunday while boys in grades 5-8 will meet from 4:30 until 6:00 PM. These sessions are open to any boy regardless of experience. Either gym shoes or indoor soccer shoes should be worn.

The 2017-18 Aviator Sports Boosters Kick-off will be Monday, August 7th at 7PM featuring an Aviator Sports Rally on the Glamorgan Castle Lawn. The Alliance High School Choirs will present their Spring Concert and Awards tonight at 7:00 in the AHS auditorium. This year's special guests are the Northside Intermediate School Choir, who will also be performing. The concert is free and open to the public.

AHS Boy’s Soccer Meeting
Any boy who will be attending Alliance High School next fall and is interested in playing soccer should attend a meeting being held this Sunday May 7th at 6:00 PM at the locker room at Rockhill Field.
This meeting is for boys currently attending the high school as well as eighth grade boys planning on playing soccer at the high school this fall.
Information regarding summer soccer and physicals will be distributed. Both players and their parents are encouraged to attend.

The AHS Orchestra earned an excellent rating at the 2017 OMEA State Orchestra adjudicated event, held at Hudson High School on Friday, February 24. Study Session Scheduled
Save the Date! Sports Medicine study session for Mid-Terms at the Alliance Starbucks on December 18th. Seniors 5pm-6pm and Juniors 6pm-7pm.

Lego Invention Project
On Dec. 1-2, students in Chris Shively’s history classes and Chris Schillig’s English classes participated in a Lego invention project. Students selected 19th-century inventors and inventions and recreated them using Legos. The project required students to research the inventions and inventors and to write down and photograph each step of the building. Students then wrote expository essays to show others in the class how to replicate their Lego creations. The project was a collaborative effort for students in the ninth-grade Pilots academy.

Choralaires spread holiday cheer
The select choir from Alliance High School, the Choralaires, spread Holiday cheer all around Alliance on Thursday, December 8. The 20-member choir is auditioned from the student body, and performs for all kinds of activities around Alliance. Thursday, the group traveled to four area nursing homes to visit residents, pass out cards and candy canes, and sing several selections from their upcoming concert. Students visited Danbury Senior Living, Brookdale of Alliance, McCrea Manor, and Altercare of Alliance, while also singing for the workers at Wendy's and Christmas Caroling through the Buckeye Village Plaza and Giant Eagle. The Choralaires are under the direction of Carrie Chunat.

Sports Medicine Internship
The Senior Sports Medicine wrapped up their 13 week internship at Alliance Community Hospital. Thank you to all of the healthcare workers who allowed them to shadow and get a first hand look at each career. We wish to especially thank Wendy Tabellion and Michele Quinn for all of their hard work in organizing all of the rotations, lectures and volunteer areas. It was a great experience for the Seniors.

Toy Drive- National Honor Society
National Honor Society is sponsoring a toy drive to benefit the Alliance Professional Firefighters Toy Drive. Items needed include new toys, games, puzzles, stuffed animals, books, sports equipment, bikes, helmets, batteries, and stocking stuffers. Items can be dropped off in the main office. The collection will continue through December 8.

AHS Students Visit WRMU:
Media Arts students from all classes visited WRMU radio station at the University of Mount Union. Station Director Lynn Riggle showed the students the various studios, editing suites and classroom. She explained the history of the local radio station, including a format change in 2015.Riggle explained the importance of learning all aspects of broadcasting to make yourself marketable. She also offered the students the opportunity to shadow the UMU students during their evening shows. AHS Teacher Kyle Schwarz said the visit was part of the study of audio this 9 weeks and will help the students with their upcoming radio station project.

Alliance High School to host NBC Honors Choir Event:
On Thursday, November 17 the Alliance High School Vocal Music Department will host NBC Honors Choir featuring several schools in the NBC. Students from Carrollton, Canton South, Louisville, Minerva, Marlington, and Alliance will combine select choir students for a mass choir experience under the direction of Rev. Jonathan Turner, Director of the University of Mount Union's IVOP program. Schools will spend the day at Alliance with Rev. Turner learning music together, and then performing in concert that evening. The concert will be held inside the AHS auditorium beginning at 7:00 pm, and admission will be $5.00 per person.

AHS Students Donate to Help Save Lives:
The Sports Medicine students helped out with the English Blood drive on Friday, November 4th. Students register and support potential donors throughout the entire process. Students also look at trends as to why potential donors were turned away and develop an educational plan to help increase donations for the next drive. This drive collected 35 pints of blood that will save up to 105 lives.

Donate to NHS Food Drive!
There is still time to donate to the Alliance High School National Honor Society food drive to benefit the Alliance Community Pantry. The drive ends on Friday. Send your donations of nonperishable food items to school with any student. Donations are accepted before school from 7:15-7:45am and also Thursday evening from 6:30-7:00pm.

Aviator Sports Boosters
The HANGAR, the Alliance Aviator spirit store located in the AHS athletic lobby, will be open Saturday, November 5th from 9AM-3PM during the AHS Craft Show. The HANGAR features a large variety of newly added apparel, baby & toddler t's, bibs, ties, hats, visors, umbrellas, blankets, bags, rhinestone airplane pins, coffee mugs, water bottles, yard signs, window clings, & lots more! The Stark County's Sports Icons & High School Greats Book will also be available to purchase. The Aviator Top 10 includes: Len Dawson (also featured as a Stark Co Great), Mel Knowlton, Anthony Blair, Harry Fails Jr, John Borton, Dave Clegg, Kendall Davis-Clark, Jen Wollam, JJ Kukura, & Charles Babb and additional Aviators are listed as Honorable Mentions. All Stark County high schools are included.
The Aviator Sports Boosters 2016-2017 membership drive is in full swing. Memberships are available and being accepted at the AHS athletic office or by contacting membership chairman Nicole Shaw(304-374-1780). All Aviator fans are encouraged to join & get involved!

Aviator Shootout
The community is invited to the 6th Annual Aviator Shootout this Friday, November 4. The event, featuring 5 minute films created in 48 hours by groups of Media Arts students, begins at 7 in Room A at AHS. After viewing these films, join us in the Media Arts room for the awards program, snacks and prizes. The event is free and we look forward to seeing you there to support these future filmmakers!

AHS to host a Veteran's Day Assembly
The Social Studies Department at Alliance High School has organized a Veteran's Day Assembly to honor those who have served our country. The assembly is open to the public and will take place in the auditorium on Wednesday, November 11th from 1:45-2:30. Those wishing to attend should try to arrive by 1:30. Reserved seating will be provided for veterans and their guests, by RSVP. If you are not a veteran/accompanying a veteran, there is no need to RSVP.
The opening of the assembly will feature a slideshow of veteran's pictures. If you are unable to send an electronic image, you may stop by the AHS main office to have a photo scanned. The image will be scanned by one of the main office secretaries & returned to you immediately.

Food Drive
AHS National Honor Society is sponsoring a food drive to benefit the Alliance Community Pantry during the week of November 7-11. Donations of non-perishable food items are requested and can be sent to school with any student.

Alliance High School College and Career Fair
The 2nd Annual Alliance High School College and Career Fair will be on Thursday, November 3rd in the AHS gymnasium from 6pm-7:30pm. All seniors will have a senior meeting from 6pm-6:45pm in the auditorium and then will be released to the gym to check out the various colleges, universities, career tech schools, employers, and scholarship organizations. Freshman, sophomores, and juniors are encouraged to come as well.

AHS will be hosting a parent college financial aid meeting tonight at 6:00. We hope to see you there.

The AHS marching band will be having a concert tonight at 7:00. Mr. Fontaine promised everyone would be home by the first pitch of the Indians game. Come out and support these amazing students!

Goverment Twitter Chat: #AHSdebates
AHS Government students have been taking part in live chats on Twitter while the Presidential debates are being televised. The students use the hashtag "#AHSdebates" with comments and questions about the candidates and issues being discussed. AHS Government teacher Joe Beichler has moderated the Twitter Chats, and has had help from several AHS staff members, all of whom respond to student questions and post comments to stimulate conversation. The turnout has been excellent, and we're very hopeful about student participation for the last debate on Wednesday night. Anyone wishing to follow along or contribute to the conversation is welcome...just be sure to include #AHSdebates with your post.

AHS Enlightenment Salon
Freshmen in Mr. Shively's class held an Enlightenment Salon in which students discussed topics that concerned people of the eighteenth century. Classical music was played to set the mood. Because the fashion of the day, students were encouraged to wear wigs and hats for the event.

Premedical Professions I
Students in Premedical Professions I started off this year strong, learning about infection and how to decrease transmission of diseases. They are now learning First Aid and Heartsaver CPR through the American Heart Association. They are literally learning how to save lives!

AHS Homecoming
AHS Homecoming, "A Night in the 1920s" will be held on Saturday, October 8 from 7-10pm. Tickets are $10 for students who purchase them by September 30 in the lobby at 7:30am and 2:30pm. Late tickets will be sold the following week for $15.

Alliance High School FCS
On Monday September 12th the following Alliance High School FCS (FCCLA) students participated in the Canton College Fund Fall Fete. These students were selected to present their food science research projects based on quality of their final project requirements. The students in Mrs. DeMaiolo’s Food Science classes have been working hard in many different areas of the Science of Food. They have been studying basic food chemistry including the physical qualities of food as well as their chemical changes through scientific evaluation.:
Gabreal Mathes- Research Food Science Topic: Food Waste in America and the Cost-also served the dinner and helped with assembling plates.
Tayla Tenney-Research Food Science Topic: Advantages and disadvantages of organic foods-she also helped with serving the dinner and helped assembly plates.
Natasha Miku-Changes to Sustainability-Operated the Fender Blender and made salsa and gazpacho for appetizers
Bianco Peloso- Research Food Science Topic-Genetic Engineering-she also helped with the Fender Blender and made appetizers.
Seandalin Jones-Genetically Modified Organisms-she helped assembly plates and serve as well as offered samples of the Raisin Rack Gourmet appetizers at the activity tables.
Miki Grewe-Worked the Fender Blender made salsa and gazpacho

The Auto Body 1 students have learned about general shop safety and safely working with refinish products. The students worked in teams of two and painted bumper covers using PPG sealer,base coat and clear coat. All of the students said that they really enjoyed the hands on learning and realized that they have a lot to learn.The students experienced first hand that learning this type of skill takes time and patience. Each student expressed in written form what they learned the most from this lesson;this is what one student wrote."I enjoyed finding my mistakes and seeing what I did wrong and learning how to fix it and become better.

The Alliance City Health Department provides immunizations to the following VFC eligible children:
-Children who do not have any form of health insurance
-Children who have one of the Medicaid Insurances: CareSource, Buckeye, United Healthcare Community, Molina or Paramount
-Children who are Under-Insured (parent must provide insurance documentation of under –insured status)
Cost is $20 per immunization; sliding fee scale is available. Shots are free with an eligible Medicaid card (see list above).
Parents must bring insurance card and shot record to the appointment. Child must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian. No child who is VFC eligible will be turned away due to inability to pay.

Alliance City School students in grades 7-12, who plan on participating in any sports for the 2016-17 school year, MUST have a current physical and insurance packet on file. These forms can be turned in to their coach or the athletic office. Fall sport athletes must have these turned in no later than August 1st.
Please be sure to take the current 2016-17 physical form with you to your doctor's appointment. This form and the insurance packet can be downloaded from the high school website or found outside the high school ticket office or the middle school office.
