With the Gary Andreani Trophy on the line, the Alliance Aviator football team defeated the West Branch Warriors by a score of 49-45.
Down 45-42 with 1:23 left on the clock, the Aviators staged a game-winning drive capped off by a Duce Johnson touchdown run with 13 seconds remaining.
The Flyer offense was paced by the aforementioned Johnson, who finished with 199 yards rushing and three touchdowns.  Quarterback Howard Frazier added 139 yards on the ground with two scores and 170 yards through the air with two more scores.  Tight ends Tyler Williams and Cameron Cox were on the receiving end of the two passes.
The special teams unit was also crucial to the Alliance win, with kicker Sam Denny finishing a perfect

seven for seven on extra point attempts.
The Gary Andreani Loyalty Helmet was presented to the Aviators by Athletic Director Mike Schott. Andreani graduated from AHS but was assistant football coach at West Branch.  The helmet trophy is presented to the winning team each year when the Aviators play the Warriors.
The Aviators’ win makes them 1-0 to start conference play, and they look to continue rolling against the Louisville Leopards this coming Friday at Mount Union Stadium.

Members of the Alliance High Varsity Football team celebrate winning the Gary Andreani Loyalty Helmet after beating West Branch. The trophy is named for AHS alum and former West Branch assistant coach Gary Andreani.
