The Jetsetters, Alliance High School’s Jetsetters placed first runner up in the Division 1 Sheridan Spotlight Show Choir Competition.

Seventeen schools from Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania and West Virginia competed at the high school in Thornville, outside of Columbus. The Jetsetters competed against four other schools in the daytime competition, ending up as first runner up in the division. Senior Kierra Cottle was named Outstanding Performer.

The Jetsetters placed in the top six overall scores and advanced to the evening finals competition. Their second performance put them in the fourth runner up spot.

“When I'm with the Jettsetters, I look at them as a family that all have the same goal and that's to take home the first-place trophy in our division,” Davis said. “This weekend was a fun experience.”

“Performing with the Jetsetters has been one of the best experiences in my high school career,” Thompson said. “I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.”

Other competitions from this year include the Midwest Show Choir Showcase held at Medina High School in February. The Jetsetters were second runner up in Division C, and Kierra Cottle was also named outstanding performer in that show.

They also competed in the North Coast Show Choir Competition held at Twinsburg High School on Feb. 25. Alliance was first runner up in the Festival Division, and Teresa Woerther was named outstanding performer.

“I am very proud of the students this year and the amount of improvement I've seen,” Chunat said. “They have worked hard and came a long way in three short competition months.”

This is the first time the AHS show choir has placed and brought home a trophy from every competition, she said.

“One of my favorite parts of directing is seeing it all come together, from the first ideas to the learning stages, to the final performance stage,” Chunat said. “And hearing the audience yell and scream is always fun, too.”
